Mary V. Ludlow

Mary V. (Flynn) Ludlow, age 98, of West Falmouth, formerly of Medfield MA, died peacefully in her home in West Falmouth on 22 October 2020.  She was the wife of the late George C. Ludlow, to whom she was married for 58 years.  Mary is survived by her six children: Barbara Coughlin of Staten Island, NY; Jane Ludlow Philippacopoulos  of Athens, Greece; Diane Reilley of Hilton Head, SC; Pamela Peters of Falmouth, MA; Mary Le Blanc of Cotuit, MA; and George Ludlow of Ocean Springs, MS.  Mary is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

Mary was born in Astoria, Queens, NY on February 10, 1922 to the late Anthony Flynn and Julia Counihan, both of Ireland. She grew up on Staten Island with her four brothers, all of whom she survived. Mary married George Ludlow of NJ in 1942, while he was on shore leave from the US Navy.  By the early 1950’s George and Mary had moved their young family to Medfield, MA, and by the late 1950’s they started summering on Cape Cod.  In 1986, after many summers in Megansett, North Falmouth, Mary and George retired to West Falmouth. They were both avid golfers and cherished friendships made at Woods Hole Golf Club.   Mary was a devoted congregant of St. Elizabeth Seton parish and particularly loved the children’s nativity play at Christmas.

Mary enjoyed welcoming her large extended family for holidays and vacations throughout the year. She delighted in her grandchildren, great- grandchildren and the family dogs, especially Wyatt who was by her side until the end.
