Mildred Louise Knight Lisk of Falmouth, MA died at home February 13, 2018 at the age of 97. Millie was born June 9, 1920 in Manchester, CT to Elsie Mae Elliott and Burt Leroy Knight. She graduated from Manchester High School with the class of 1938B and attended the Morse School of Business in Hartford.
She married Kerwin O. Lisk in Ogden, UT on July 14, 1942 after a three day train ride with her wedding dress on her lap. After the war, they lived in Manchester, CT and several locations in New York State, and Lakeside, CT for 20 years, where she found her career as a librarian and American Field Service adviser at Wamogo High School. They returned every summer to Coventry, CT to the lakefront cottage her father completed the summer she was born. They retired to Falmouth in 1985 and became involved in the community, joining the First Congregational Church where Millie was a loyal and integral part of the lay ministry team. She started and led the Falmouth Hospital Stroke Support Group for more than two decades. She joined Neighborhood Falmouth and enjoyed enduring friendships with many of its volunteers especially Davien Gould, Rhona Carlton-Foss, and the Rev. Bobbie Miner. She was an avid reader, walker, birder and friend to many.
She is survived by her children: Linda Lisk-Seymour and Art Seymour of Branford, CT, Susan Lisk of Hadley, MA, Nancy Lisk and John Hambrook of Bolton, CT, Craig Lisk and Suzanne Felt-Lisk of Arlington, VA, and Danjuma and Suwaiba Saulawa of Tuskeegee, AL; grandchildren: Frances Gutter Lisk MacAllister, Elliott Hambrook, Jocelyn Ruppert, Truman and Bryant Lisk; Fareeda, Mohammed, Maryam and Amatallah Saulawa; beloved sister-in-law Bette Knight of Eddington, ME, numerous nieces and nephews, especially Beth Knight Colley of Sagamore Beach, MA.
She was predeceased by her husband of nearly 52 years, Kerwin, her parents, sister Harriet Judd, and brothers Elliott, Francis and James Knight.
Her family would like to thank her devoted care giver, Ellie Bath; the supportive staff of Falmouth Hospital and VNA; and the many others who touched her life.
A memorial service will be held April 28, 2018 at 2 pm at the First Congregational Church of Falmouth. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Millie may be made to Neighborhood Falmouth, PO Box 435, or First Congregational Church, 68 Main Street, Falmouth MA 02540.
