Patricia (Patti) Anne (Howard, Shank) Cabral, 79, of Cotuit, Massachusetts. She passed away peacefully at The Pavilion Nursing Home in Hyannis, on Tuesday, June 11, 2019 from cancer.
Patti was born to the late Kathleen P. and Wallace C. Howard in Boston, MA on January 27, 1940. She grew up in Chatham with her brothers, Wallace (Tim) C. Howard Jr. and the late James P. Howard, and attended Chatham schools.
Mom and her late husband Robert (Bob) L. Cabral were married on September 12, 1980, and she was formerly married to the father of her daughters, Floyd I. Shank in March of 1958.
She loved animals. There were always 2 of everything growing up in our family home, which included horses, rescue dogs, cats, rabbits, and guinea pigs. She could always be found at the Cape Cod horse shows every Sunday in the summer months during the 60’s and 70’s driving her blue Chevy truck with the blue Kingston horse trailer. She was instrumental along with many other volunteers in helping to get the Cape Cod Trail Riders (CCTRA) back up and running along with assisting with many of the horse shows on Cape Cod. For many years she was also a co-leader for the 4-H Club “Bits & Bridles” with her dear friend Betty Juskiewicz. She was very influential in the “Cape Cod horse world”.
Patti and Bob met in Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic. They enjoyed going back for several years to visit with all the friends they made there over time.
She worked for East Bay Lodge in Osterville, for several years as a cocktail waitress, and again for several more years until her retirement at The Windjammer Lounge in Hyannis, as a waitress and the first woman bartender at the "Jamma”. She was the kind of server who accommodated her large following of customers and friends, going above and beyond by ensuring their seat was available for them at the time they would be coming to see her, along with their favorite libation ready and waiting for them. She also worked for a short time at Tugboats Too in Centerville when they first opened. After retirement she worked part time for a few years at Spanky’s Clam Shack in Hyannis.
Patti loved people and loved being around as many people as she could at any given time. She was kind and nice to everybody. She always said “it doesn’t cost a nickel to be nice”! She always put everyone else first and herself last. She truly loved her work in the restaurant business and all the great people she worked with over the years, as well as her many customers who became very good friends. She was the epitome of beauty, grace, and elegance and she will be missed dearly.
She is survived by her daughters, Kerry L. Shank and Cristy M. Cannon (Jeff), son Robert (Rob) J. Cabral (fiance Linda Vokey), 3 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, brother Wallace (Tim) C. Howard, sister-in-law Sharon Oliveira, niece Lisa J. Lewis (John), nephew John M. Howard, 2 great nieces, 2 great nephews, former husband Floyd Shank (Ann), her best friend since childhood Mabel Daskalakis (Nick), and numerous extended family and friends, too many to name them all.
Patti was predeceased by her husband Robert L. Cabral, mother and father Kathleen and Wallace C. Howard, brother James P. Howard, sister in laws Sylvia Howard and Judith Howard, and step son Jon W Cabral and his son JonJon.
Burial service will be held at the National Cemetery Pavilion, Connery Avenue, Bourne, MA on June 26, 2019 at 1:45 PM https://www.cem.va.gov/cems/nchp/massachusetts.asp
Mom received loving and exceptional, above and beyond, care from Nurse Practitioner Kim Smalls and Dr. Lisa Moreno of Emerald Physicians and we are all very thankful to them.
