Paul D. Costa

Paul D Costa (aka Coosta) 72, born May 24, 1945 died peacefully at the HopeHealth McCarthy Care Center in East Sandwich on 09/04/2017 of Esophageal Cancer following treatment over the last year at Dana Farber in Boston. Born and raised in Bridgewater, MA, Paul kept residences in Middleboro, Norton and New Hampshire, with his primary residence in Norton for the last 41 years.

He is survived by his life partner Jody Ryan of Middleboro, son John Costa and his girlfriend Kristen Brearley of Old Orchard Beach, ME, daughter Denise Savoia and boyfriend Victor Alspach of Otisville, ME, 2 sisters Rita Costa and husband Eric Costa of Bridgewater and Linda Souza and her husband Tom Souza of Lakeville, and brother Richard Costa of Plymouth, MA. He was the husband to the late Ernestine (Skip) Costa, brother to the late Ray Costa and brother in-law to the late Judy Costa. He was the son of the late John David Costa and Lillian Della (Cassani) Costa of Bridgewater. Paul (Papa) leaves behind 6 of his own grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. He also leaves behind Jody’s 3 children and spouses, and her 5 grandchildren, along with many loving cousins, nieces and nephews, and endless friends.

Paul graduated from Bridgewater Raynham Regional High School in 1963, attended Bridgewater State College and went on to serve in the Army National Guard and worked for the Gas Company from 1967 to 2006.

Many of his long term friends will remember the days when he worked as a bartender at Larry’s Lunch in Bridgewater, and the Bay State Gas Co for 35 years where he retired in 2004. Paul loved spending time with his family and friends, running, skiing, playing golf, hiking, taking long walks, and vacations to New Hampshire, US Ski States and Iceland. He was an avid sports enthusiast to the Red Sox, Patriots, Celtics and Bruins, played on a local softball team for 10 years and more recently, attended local sports events.

Visiting hours will be on Sunday, September 10th from 4-7p.m. at the Prophett-Chapman, Cole and Gleason Funeral Home at 98 Bedford Street, Bridgewater, MA 02324.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 on Monday Sept. 11, 2017  at St Thomas Aquinas Church, 103 Center Street, Bridgewater, MA 02324.

Interment will follow in the Timothy Plain Cemetery in Norton, MA 02766.

Paul's Granddaughter Morgan Costa is running in Paul's name and memory In the 2017 B.A.A Half Marathon for Dana Farber Cancer Center on October 8, 2017.
