Paul J Sullivan, loving husband of Cecilia for 49 years, passed away suddenly at the age of 79 on Monday, October 26, 2020. Paul was a hero to his children and grandchildren, a loving spouse to his wife and a supportive brother and friend to his five younger siblings.
Paul planned and executed many memorable family trips and vacations over the years and in his retirement took many cruises with his wife. Paul was born on September 1, 1941, the son of Joseph and Lillian (Rita) Sullivan, and grew up in South Boston. During his teen years he played football for the Mustangs. Following high school at DonBosco, Paul served in the Navy for three years. Upon returning home Paul was hired by Boston Edison (now Eversource) as a station cleaner, working his way up to boiler room technician and eventually customer service planner over his 36 year career with the company. While with the company he worked every storm and for a period of time held a side job as a canteen truck driver. He also attended night school and earned his associates degree from Newbury College.
Throughout his life he served on many committees related to children with special needs and special education and was a member of various parent advisory groups. Upon retirement he and Celia moved from Canton, where they had raised their family, to Mashpee and spent his days playing golf, attending men’s coffee, working as a parking lot attendant for Hi-Line Cruises, serving at the local food pantry, babysitting his grandchildren, helping his daughter with home improvement projects, taking care of his son and spending treasured time with his family.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Robert Sullivan and his sister Helen Sullivan. He is survived by his wife Cecilia Sullivan, his daughter Julianne Sullivan and her children Lexi Davignon and Lila Sullivan-Davignon, his son Timothy Sullivan and his siblings Janice (Jim) Shea, Maureen Sullivan, Brian (Mary) Sullivan and Stephen (Dede) Sullivan.
A visitation will be held at the Chapman Cole and Gleason Funeral Home 74 Algonquin Ave (Rte 151) Mashpee on Monday November 2, 2020 from 3:00pm to 6:00pm. A funeral mass will be celebrated at Christ the King Church 3 Job’s Fishing Rd. Mashpee, MA on Tuesday November 3, 2020 at 11:00am. Burial will follow in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne at 1:15pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the May Institute’s Mashpee Day Habilitation Center (550 Main St., Mashpee, MA 02648) where the funds will directly benefit the clients.
