FALMOUTH - Percy Lhee Kennedy, Jr., 69, died at home surrounded by love on Tuesday, November 19th. He was born in Jackson, TN to the late Mary (Murray) and Percy Kennedy Sr. He was a direct decedent of Alexander Murray Palmer Haley, the author of Roots. He leaves behind his loving wife, Roberta (Roderick) Kennedy; his stepson Gregory C. Roderick and his partner Christy Allee; 4 grandchildren who he adored: Brianna, Dayonna, and Isabella Roderick, and Jayden Allee; all of Falmouth. He also leaves his aunt, Johnny Joy of TN and cousin, Maria Long of FL. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother Michael Kennedy.
A child of a military family, Percy lived in Japan until the age of six. His family moved to Cape Cod when the Air Force transferred his father to Otis Air Force Base. He attended grammar school in Mashpee, was a 1968 graduate of Lawrence High School, and went on to graduate from Cape Cod Community College with an Associate’s degree in the Arts. He then attended Salem State College where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Education. He also obtained his pilot’s license in his younger years.
Percy worked as a substitute teacher in the Boston public school system, WHOI, and Mid Cape Home Centers. For many years, he was also a volunteer with the AARP Tax program for the senior community in Falmouth. His passion to learn led him to pursue and obtain his Master’s degree Criminal Justice in 2018.
Percy faithfully served on the Falmouth Police Department for 35 years, retiring as a Sergeant in 2012 after his father’s death so that he could care for his mother. He was a member of the Massachusetts Chapter of the Blue Knights International Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club. Percy demonstrated his love and dedication for the Falmouth community by showing respect to everyone.
Visiting hours will be held from 4-8pm on Tuesday, Nov. 26th in the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 475 Main Street, Falmouth MA.
