Peter A. Bythewood, age 67, died peacefully at home while surrounded by his family. Peter was the loving son of the late Daniel and Mary (Leonard) Bythewood and grew up in Waltham MA. He was a graduate of Waltham High School Class of 1969 and received his Associates Degree from Massasoit Community College. He raised his 5 children in Plymouth.
His long career in finance included positions as Associate Director of Purchasing for Boston University and more recently as Procurement Manager, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center; retiring at age 65. Peter married his longtime partner Lianne Dunn in January 2016 and the two lived in Sandwich, MA before moving to Bridgewater, MA 6 years ago.
He was a great outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, camping, canoeing, and the ocean. Peter was also a gifted carpenter who took great pride in restoring old homes. He spent many years with Boy Scouts and was a Boy Scout camp counselor and Boy Scout pack leader. Peter played football in high school, loved collecting antique tools, was awesome at Trivial Pursuit and telling stories, loved bird watching, playing croquet, shopping yard sales with Dennis, teaching his sons to fish, gardening and landscaping, taking annual trips to Paw Sox, Christmas parties, family vacations at Weirs Beach NH and Vergennes VT, and especially—always being there for everyone and putting others first.
Peter was the loving husband of Lianne Bythewood and devoted father of Tara B. Rohatgi and her husband Gaurav of Waltham MA, Erin E. Fein of Plymouth MA, Caitlin A. Clark of Harwich MA, Daniel J. Bythewood of Brooklyn NY, Dennis R. Bythewood of Plymouth MA and stepfather of Haley Dunn of Arlington VA. He was a proud Grandpa of 9 grandchildren; Meghan, Matthew, Michael, Mary, Harper, Joshua, James, Kelly and William. He is survived by his siblings: Janet Healy, Leonard Bythewood, Elizabeth Collins, Paul Bythewood, Bernard Bythewood and brother of the late Lt. Col. Daniel Bythewood. Also survived by his former wife Carolyn (Bythewood) Griffin and many loving nieces and nephews and friends.
Funeral at the Prophett-Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 98 Bedford St. Bridgewater on Fri. Aug. 3rd at 9 am. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 103 Center St. Bridgewater MA at 10 am. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Thurs. Aug 2 from 5 to 8 pm.
