Phyllis M. Fitzgerald, 95, of Pocasset, MA passed away after a brief illness on September 22, 2020 at The Royal of Cotuit Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Mashpee, MA. Phyllis was the beloved daughter of Mary Frances (Commons) and Michael J. Fitzgerald and was born in Newton, MA.
Phyllis is survived by her loving sister Barbara Lee of Mashpee, sister-in-law Marion Fitzgerald of Canton, MA and several nieces and nephews. Phyllis is pre-deceased by her parents, sister Ruth Rogers and brothers Robert Fitzgerald and Richard Fitzgerald as well as sister-in-law Marilyn Fitzgerald and brothers-in-law George Rogers and Lester Lee.
She attended Quincy Public Schools and then served as an Army Medical Technician during WW II. After the completion of her faithful service, Phyllis an art enthusiast, attended the Museum School in Boston, MA. Her final year of college was spent studying sculpture in Paris, France.
Upon graduation, Phyllis remained in Europe and enjoyed an established career as a fashion runway and print model throughout France and Italy for various couture designers including Christian Dior. She later returned to the states and while living in New York, continued her modeling career for another decade. Phyllis then moved to the Washington DC area and worked for many years at The Library of Congress until her retirement. Following her retirement, Phyllis returned to MA and settled in Falmouth to be closer to her family.
Phyllis was a lifelong lover and collector of all types of fine art, antiques and jewelry. She enjoyed spending countless hours reading her treasured books and periodicals.
A burial service will be held a the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne, MA on Friday October 2, 2020 at 11:00am.
