Phyllis M. Scannell

Phyllis M. (Johnson) Scannell, 96, of Falmouth, died Monday, February 6, 2017 at Falmouth Hospital unexpectedly.

Born August 6, 1920 in Arlington, Massachusetts, the daughter of the late Frank D. & Jennie M. (Perham) Johnson

Phyllis graduated from Quincy High School and worked for many years at Grossinger’s and the Concord Hotels in the Catskills before moving to Cape Cod.  She later worked at the Pocasset Golf Club and Seacrest Hotel as a waitress until her retirement at 81.  Her love of family was never ending.  Although most of her family was not near she looked forward everyday to telephone calls, cards and visits from them.  She was an avid golfer, loved bowling, NASCAR, walking the Cape Cod Canal and spending time at the beach.  She also loved all animals, especially the family cats.

She is survived by her daughter, Nancy J. Sundman and her husband Ralph of Monument Beach; her son, Peter M. Scannell and his wife Ronni of Monticello, NY, two grandchildren, Peter Scannell of NY and Tammy Ascolese of FL; three great grandchildren, Kayla Connolly, Connor and Garrett Ascolese of FL; her brother, Frank D. Johnson and his wife Jo-Ann of Scarborough, ME and Naples, FL; sister, Caryl McIntire of MD.   She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends whom were blessed to know her.

She was predeceased by her brother Roland L. Johnson and his wife Raewyn, her two sisters Arleen Johnson and Elizabeth Madden and Stepmother Ada (Roma) Johnson.

Phyllis touched the lives of many people with her infectious smile and kindness.  Relatives and friends are invited to visit on Friday, Feb. 17, 2017 at the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 584 W. Falmouth Highway (Rt. 28A), W. Falmouth from 11 AM to 1 PM.  A funeral service will follow at 1 PM.  Interment will be at a later date at the Oakland Grove Cemetery, Bourne.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Friends of the Plymouth Pound, P.O. Box 578, Manomet, MA 02345.
