Phyllis W. Nickerson

Phyllis W. Nickerson, 95, of Cotuit passed peacefully at Royal Cotuit in Mashpee on August 4, 2017.

Phyllis was born in Cotuit on May 27, 1922 and was a graduate of Barnstable schools. She married Alfred Luther Nickerson on October 12, 1940 in Cotuit and they had three children, Howard, Harry and Stephen respectively. 

When the boys were old enough to help around the house, Phyllis began a job at Butners in Hyannis. Many years later she began her most loved work as Children’s Librarian at the Hyannis Library.  She also loved her many short trips with her friends Ruth Burrows, Dotty Nickerson, and Elizabeth Thayer.  One of her more memorable trips was when she spent a month in Alaska with her son Howard.

Prior to entering Royal of Cotuit, she lived independently in her own attached apartment with her son Stephen and her daughter-in-law Janet for 18 years.

Phyllis is survived by son Stephen and daughter-in-law Janet of Cotuit, son Harry and daughter-in-law Martha of Lamoine, ME, and son Howard and daughter-in-law Lise of Alna, ME, and brother Gary Pierce and sister-in-law Ruth Pierce of Cotuit.

A graveside service will be held at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, August 15 at Mosswood Cemetery in Cotuit.

In lieu of flowers donations in her memory may be made to Hyannis Public Library, Children’s Department, 401 Main Street, Hyannis, MA  02601.
