Rev. John B. Lopes

Reverend John B. Lopes, 87, of Mashpee, formerly of Falmouth, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on September 2, 2020. He was the beloved husband of the late Vivienne Lopes and son of the late Dennis and Rosa Francis Lopes. John served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He attended Nazarene Bible College in Colorado Springs, CO. And graduated class of 1982. John served as a pastor for 37 years as well as a chaplain for neighboring hospitals. He served as pastor at the Mashpee Baptist Church for many years. John was an avid reader, loved the ocean and enjoyed cooking, especially for his family. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and will be dearly missed by all who loved and knew him. John is survived by his four children, Monica Reece and husband Alfred of Florida, Sheila Allen of Wakefield, RI, John Dennis Lopes of Mashpee, Matthew Lopes of Mashpee; six grandchildren Samuel, Lisa, Eric, Jessica, Faith, Kalel; five great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by six siblings, Mary, Genevieve, Antonia, Francis, Jose and Edward. Visitation for family and friends will be at Chapman Cole and Gleason Funeral Home, 74 Algonquin Ave. (Rte 151) Mashpee, on Thursday, September 10, 2020 from 11 AM to 12 PM, followed by a brief service in the funeral home. Due to the restrictions caused by the pandemic, capacity in the funeral home is limited and will be closely monitored. Burial will be privately held for immediate family only at Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne. A celebration of John’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Mashpee Baptist Church.
