Richard “Dickie” Mayo

South Yarmouth-Mayo, Richard “Dickie”, 77, passed away on Saturday, December 1, 2018.  He was the devoted, loving husband of his high school sweet heart, best friend and wife of 58 years Barbara L (Thomas).  He was predeceased by his parents Carleton Mayo and Elizabeth (Howard) Burke and brother Gary Mayo.  He is survived by his daughter Kim Howes, husband Christopher Howes, son Richard C. Mayo, Jr., son John W. Mayo and his girlfriend Jeannette Thompson; his siblings Wayne Mayo, Sr., Donna Maietta and Michael Burke.  He is also survived by his 6 grandchildren, two great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Born and raised on Cape Cod.  He worked as a skilled carpenter. A foreman employed by Davenport Realty of 32 years.  Soon after, he began his own business as a creative, talented finish carpenter along with his brother-in-law Robert Thomas as his apprentice.  He was a natural craftsman and everything he built was with pride and perfection.  Dickie was an athlete, participating in many sports including basketball and volleyball; but his passion was golf. He was an avid, exceptional golfer.  A member of Bass River Golf Club for 40 plus years.  Most of all, Dickie adored and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.  He often would entertain them with love of old-time country music.  Playing his guitar and singing was one of his greatest joys.  A simple man; but the true example of a hardworking, loyal, respected, kind, loving, fun husband, father, papa, brother, uncle and friend.  He will be profoundly missed.
