SANDWICH - Richard Sawyer passed away peacefully on August 9th after a brief illness. In his final days, he was surrounded at home by family and friends. Richard was born in Somerville, MA in 1946. He graduated from Nashua High School in 1964 and from Bentley College in 1968. He served in the USAF from 1969 to 1973 having been stationed in Taiwan and Denver, CO. It was in Denver that he met and married the love of his life, Shirley Rader from Hays, Kansas in 1971.
Richard leaves behind 3 children, Jason & his wife, Jennifer, Tammy & her husband, Brian, & Justin & his wife, Kristin and 7 grandchildren: Maddie, Audrey, Evan, Maya, Morgan, Shannon & Liam.
Richard was self-employed since 1973 as a fast food owner, bookkeeper and property manager. He was an involved individual who has served as Treasurer in various organizations and locales: Adams County Republican Party in CO; Cape Cod Media Center in Dennis, MA; Barnstable Little League; and his beloved Cotuit Kettleers. He was pleased to have left each in good financial standing. He was appointed to the Barnstable Recreation Commission and the Barnstable Community Preservation Committee.
His whole life changed in 1982 when he accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior. He attended various churches in his lifetime. Most important to him was Life Fellowship in Westminster, CO, Osterville Baptist, and Marston Mills Community Church.
He cared about people and spent a great deal of his time, prayers, and energy in being involved in their lives. His greatest hope is to meet all of them at the banquet table in heaven and he will have a huge grin on his face.
Visiting hours will be on Friday Aug. 14, 2020 from 4-7PM in the John-Lawrence Funeral Home, 3778 Falmouth Rd. Marstons Mills, MA. A funeral service will be on Saturday at 10 AM in the Marstons Mills Community Church, 2135 Main street, Marstons Mills, MA. Burial will be in Mosswood Cemetery.
Memorials in Richards memory may be made to the scholarship fund at Trinity Christian Academy of Cape Cod, checks payable to Trinity Christian Academy.
