Richard J. Monteith

Richard “Dick” J. Monteith, 55, of Bridgewater, died peacefully on Monday, February 6, 2017 at Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Dick was born and raised in Lynn, MA and was a 1979 graduate of Lynn Classical High School. Dick earned both his Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Bridgewater State University.
He married Andrea, the love of his life, on Sep. 24, 1989. They raised their three children in Bridgewater, where Dick was an active member of the community, serving as a soccer and baseball coach for many years. He was also the chairman of the Bridgewater Conservation Commission for over five years. Dick loved traveling with his family, and their adventures brought them around the world. He was a skillful jack-of-all-trades and an ingenious engineer.
“Mr. Mon” taught in the Holbrook School system for over 16 years. He was a highly respected and much loved science teacher for 7th through 12th graders, and coached high school football, softball, and robotics. One of his greatest passions was to inspire his students to live up to their fullest potential.
Dick was the loving husband of Andrea (Ortmeier) Monteith and father of Robert L. Monteith, Erika G. Monteith, and Kevin R. Monteith; all of Bridgewater. He was the son of Judy A. Monteith of Peabody and the late Robert W. Monteith, Sr. He is survived by his brother, Robert W. Monteith, Jr. and his wife Joanie of York, Maine; his sister, Cheri A. Silvonic of Woburn; his sister, Lisa C. Greene and her husband Sean of Peabody; his father-in-law, Lothar Ortmeier and his wife Waltraud of Falmouth; his sister-in-law Ilona Connor and her husband Michael of Nahant; and his sister-in-law Christina Hooper and her husband Tom of Barrington, NH. He is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
Family and friends are cordially invited to visiting hours from 4pm to 8pm on Friday, February 10th, at the Prophett-Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 98 Bedford St. Bridgewater.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30am on Saturday, February 11th, at St. Ann’s Church, 660 North Main St., Raynham. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Dick Monteith Memorial Scholarship Fund, 5 Scotland Boulevard, Bridgewater, MA 02324.
