Richard J. Taber, 73, of Sandwich, passed away following a long illness on November 9, 2020 at the Royal of Cotuit Nursing Home. He was the husband of Joyce (Bolger) Taber, for whom he shared 51 years of marriage together.
Born August 15, 1947 he was the son of the late Alden and Beatrice (LeMire) Taber of New Bedford, MA. He was a graduate of New Bedford High School and following high school enlisted in the United States Air Force. After his service in the US Air Force, Richard went on to earn his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Southeastern Massachusetts University. He worked for many years as a corporate controller at Colonial Candle, Party Light, and Wigs by Paula.
Richard enjoyed playing a variety of sports and coached baseball for many years for his children’s teams. He also enjoyed playing tennis with members of the Kings Grant Racquet Club and loved teaching his children how to play. Richard was a dedicated fan of the Cotuit Kettleers and loved nothing more than spending summer nights watching the games with his family and friends. Richard’s family and friends will always remember his witty jokes and kindhearted laugh. Above all, Richard was a dedicated family man and will be greatly missed by all who loved him.
In addition to his beloved wife, Joyce, Richard is survived by his son, Sean Taber , his wife Margaret and their three children Christian, Ashley and Andrew of Hampstead, North Carolina; his daughter, Kimberly (Taber) Powell and her son Nolan, of Sandwich, MA; his sister Nancy Teixeira, of Acushnet, MA; his brother Donald Taber, of Acushnet, MA, as well as many nieces, nephews and in-laws. Along with his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his sister Joyce Teixeira formerly of Acushnet, MA.
A graveside service will be held at Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne, MA at a later date.
