Richard “Rick” Shaw

Richard A. “Rick” Shaw, entered into eternal rest on December 1, 2017. He was the beloved husband of the late Marilyn R. Shaw.

He was born in New Bedford, MA to Albert and Mary Shaw on Dec. 11, 1927. After moving to Cape Cod, he graduated from Yarmouth High School in 1945. After serving in the Army, Richard graduated from the University of Massachusetts with a degree in Chemical Engineering in 1951. Richard had a long and successful career that spanned four decades with Uniroyal Chemical Division in Naugatuck, CT. In retirement, he and Marilyn returned to their beloved Cape Cod and made their home in Mashpee. He was a member of the West Parish of Barnstable, where he was active for many years while he was able.

Richard is survived by his children David Shaw of Naugatuck, CT, Pamela Flynn of Monument Beach, MA, Nancy Cote and her husband Daniel of Naugatuck, CT, Robert Shaw of Santa Clara, CA, two cherished grandchildren, Alexandra Neal and her husband Jonathan, and Erik Cote, and great-grandson Adrien Neal, and a second great-grandson who is expected in the spring, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife Marilyn, Richard was predeceased by his son-in-law, Paul Flynn, his brother Frederick Shaw, his sister Bertha Shaw, and his former wife Lois Benson Shaw who passed away in 1954.

Richard’s family wishes to express deepest heartfelt gratitude to the entire staff at Keystone Place of Buzzard’s Bay where he was nicknamed “Dickie” and given outstanding care during his time there. The family would also like to thank Beacon Hospice.

Family and friends may gather at the Chapman Cole and Gleason Funeral Home, 74 Algonquin Ave. (Rte 151) Mashpee on Friday December 15, 2017 from 10:00am to 11:00am. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 am. Burial will follow at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne at 12:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to West Parish of Barnstable, 2049 Meetinghouse Way West Barnstable, MA 02668.
