Richard T. Costello of Brockton passed away peacefully November 12, 2018 at age 77. Richard was born in Boston and was the son of the late Helen (Zakszewski) and George Costello. Richard worked many years as a local union roofer.
Richard, also known as Dick Costello, grew up in Dorchester surrounded by a fun and loving family. In his youth, he caddied at the old Wollaston golf course in Quincy, he worked on the ferry from Boston to Nantasket (and soon became the crews cook), and he played the trumpet in the first year of the Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra. After graduation he would prosper as a local union roofer, working throughout New England. In his travels he met Theresa (Kitty), and her three young children. A couple years later they would marry and complete the family with his daughter Gail. Richard and Theresa moved to the Randolph area and later settled in Brockton. They spent many wonderful years there enjoying watching their family grow.
Richard had a big, generous heart and he loved to entertain and co-host on the holidays. Family and friends would often comment on what a phenomenal cook he was. Folks enjoyed calling him for recipes and cooking instructions, and he would happily oblige. He loved to watch sports on television and we will miss his festive Super Bowl commentary. Some of his favorite programs were the Andre’ Rieu specials, Anne of Green Gables, and The Quiet Man. His greatest joy was spending time with his family. Richard’s sense of humor and shining personality will be remembered fondly.
Husband of the late Theresa M. (Carron) Costello. Richard is survived by his daughter Gail Costello, step-son’s James McQuillan, Earl Adams, and loving grandchildren, Brandy Francesshelli, Thomas Costello, step-grandchildren, Daniel Adams, Kelli Levy, Keira McQuillan, Alia McQuillan, Amber Adams, Krista Adams, Tanya Williams, Ellisa Pierce-Waites and step-great grandchildren. He was pre–deceased by his step-daughter Sue Healey. Brother of Marion Pickering, the late George Costello, Lorraine Gately, Helen Ryan, and Robert Costello.
