East Falmouth, MA — On Saturday, November 4, 2017, a father, a husband and a friend to many passed away. Richard W. McLeod, 77, passed peacefully at the Spaulding Rehabilitation Center in Cambridge, MA following a brief illness. He was a great loving person who always cared for others and put them first. He had a great sense of humor and a great life.
He leaves his loving wife of 52 years, Jane (Ward) McLeod; in addition to his wife he is survived by 4 sons, Ken and his significant other, Melissa, Andrew and his wife Belinda, Glenn and his wife Cindy and Daniel. He was the grandfather to 5 and a great grandfather to 1 great granddaughter with a large extended family. He was predeceased in death by his beloved dog, Gritty.
Richard is also survived by his brother Robert and Fr. Frederick, SJ. He was preceded in death by his sisters Marjorie and Carol and brother, Billy.
Born and raised in Dorchester, MA the son of Evelyn and Walter, he was a long-time resident of Westborough and East Falmouth, MA.
After graduating from Boston College High School in 1958, he attended Boston College, graduating in 1963 and completed his education at Suffolk Law in 1972. He worked for Travelers Insurance for 35 years in Worcester and Boston, finishing his career and most recently for Loughran and Corbett law firm, Watertown, MA.
Richard served his community as a former Selectman for the Town of Westborough and more recently as the Treasurer of the Davisville Civic Association of East Falmouth, MA. He had a passion for his family, animals, his new rooftop solar array and his prized Honda Accord, boasting over 300,000 miles.
Visiting hours will be held from 4-8 PM on Thursday, Nov 9, at the Chapman Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 475 Main Street, Falmouth. A funeral Mass will be held at 11 AM on Friday, Nov 10, at St. Anthony’s Church, 167 East Falmouth Hwy (Rte. 28), E. Falmouth. A private burial is being scheduled for a later date.
