Robert L. Johnson, Sr.

Hatchville—Robert L. Johnson, Sr., “Bob”, 85, passed away peacefully at home on March 6, 2018, surrounded by his loving family.

Bob was born in Quincy, MA a son of the late Ovar and Mary Johnson. He was honorably discharged from the US Marine Corps Reserves in 1950. In 1952, Bob started in the building trade and started his own Building Contractor Business in 1960 that lasted for a duration of 16 years and he contracted with many different organizations such as WHOI, The National Marine Fisheries, The Town of Falmouth and the National Academy of Sciences. In September of 1976, he was appointed Building Commissioner for the Town of Falmouth until 1980. In 1981 he initiated a home inspection business full time. He inspected 450 to 500 locations until his retirement.

Bob was a lifetime member of the Falmouth Lodge of Elks, Midway Trap & Skeet Club, Cape Cod Beagle Club and he was a faithful communicant of St. Elizabeth Seton Church. He enjoyed entering his beagles in field trials all over the State during the 50’s and 60’s. He also was a deer hunter and enjoyed boating as well as fishing. He was an avid gardener and he enjoyed his family ski trips. Over the years, he and his wife Violet, vacationed on many of the Caribbean Islands, with Aruba being their favorite.

Survivors include his beloved wife of 65 years, Violet “Vi” Johnson; children, Carol (John) Varao, Sharon (Darius) Urbon, Robert L. Johnson Jr. (Schuyler) and Christine Johnson; 5 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and his brother, Carl Johnson. Bob was predeceased by his brother, Arthur Johnson.

Visiting hours will be held at the Chapman, Cole and Gleason Funeral Home, 584 West Falmouth HWY (Route 28A), WEST FALMOUTH, on Wednesday, March 14, from 4 until 7 pm. A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, March 15 at 11 AM at St. Elizabeth Seton Church, 481 Quaker Rd., North Falmouth. Interment to follow the Mass in St. Joseph Cemetery, Gifford Street, Falmouth.
