Delahunt, Robert M. (Bob) Age 83, passed away on Friday, August 3, at Sandwich Hospice on Cape Cod after a yearlong illness. A resident of Pocasset, MA since 1972, previously a resident of Norwell, MA. Bob was born on October 8, 1934 in Weymouth, MA to John and Helen Delahunt.
A devout Catholic, Bob graduated from Weymouth High School and entered Worcester Poly Technical Institute in Worcester, MA. Bob was a member of ROTC, and a Captain in the Army. Bob began a 40 year career with Polaroid, Corp. working in the lab with Dr. Edwin Land, developing many Polaroid products including the SX-70 instant camera film. Bob retired as a Sr. Vice President. Those who worked with Bob never forgot him. His dry sense of humor, toughness and high expectations never eclipsed the depth of his kindness, which touched many.
Bob was the consummate family man, spending summer weekends on the cape with his family and winter weekends skiing in NH. Family time always included 5:00 Mass, often in our ski boots.
Bob married his Weymouth High School sweetheart, the “Love of his life,” Jean Wynott. They enjoyed a 58 year marriage filled with love and happiness. In addition to Jean, Bob leaves his daughter, Caren Delahunt Baker, his son-in-law Paul Baker of Duxbury, MA, and his two beloved grandchildren, Lauren of South Boston, MA and Jack of Duxbury, MA. Bob also leaves his son, Robert M. Delahunt, Jr. of Weymouth MA, his wife Lesley, and daughter Susan Delahunt of Weymouth, MA. Bob also leaves many cousins, nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors. Bob joins his brother, Jack, (John K. Delahunt) who passed away almost one year ago.
We like to think Bob and Jack are in heaven together, advising God on how to run things, and asking everyone how they like their steak grilled.
Bob was an active member of St. John, The Evangelist Church in Pocasset, MA. Bob attended mass daily and helped run the Bourne Food Pantry and the St. Vincent De Paul Society with his dear friend Andy Murray of Pocasset, MA. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Bob’s memory to the Bourne Food Pantry, 20 Commerce Park Rd., Pocasset,MA 02559 or St. Vincent De Paul Society, of St. John the Evangelist Church, 841 Shore Rd., Pocasset, MA 02559
