Robert M. Heffernan , 88 of East Bridgewater, died peacefully on Jan. 29. Bob grew up in the Codman Square Section of Dorchester and was raised by his beloved mother, the late Emma (Josselyn) Heffernan and the late James Shields.

Bob was a graduate of both the school of hard knocks and Dorchester high school. He joined the US Air Force after graduation and served mostly in the south western part of the United States and always looked fondly on those memories. He raised his family in Dorchester and when the kids were older he married the love of his life, Phyllis “Joanie” (Briggs) Heffernan and two settled in East Bridgewater 35 years ago.

Bob was a mellow, big hearted, and soothing friend to many. He always had an open ear for a friend and he spent many wonderful days at his camp in Pittsburg NH, “chillin’ on the hill”.

He was the loving father of Diane E. Joslin and her husband Steve of FL, Robert M. Heffernan and his wife Mirna of Stoughton, Patrick M. Heffernan and his wife Erin of Brockton, and step father to Frank, Barry, Dennis, Gail, and Sheila. Gail will always be his “guardian angel” as the two became very close these past years. Loving “Grandpa” of Kevin, Chris, Katie, Kelly, Patrick, Michael, Daniel, and also many loving great grand kids and step grandchildren; he loved you all. Brother of Dan Heffernan of GA, and the late Jack and Timothy Heffernan.

All are cordially invited to the Prophett-Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 35 Spring St. East Bridgewater on Tues. Feb. 5th for a visitation period from 4-7pm. A Funeral Home Service will begin at 7pm. For those who can attend, a burial service will be held on Wed.
