West Harwich, MA - Ronald R. Reuss 79, passed away peacefully with his wife of 50 years, Rita, by his side on June 17th 2019. Ronald was born in Cleveland, OH, on December 11, 1939, the only child of the late Albert J. and Emma Lichtenberg Reuss.
After graduating in 1958 from Cleveland’s St. Joseph High School, Ron went on to earn his B.A. degree from John Carroll University in University Heights, OH. In 1969, he married attorney Rita Page. Ron received his MBA in Economics from Cleveland State University. Armed with degrees, common sense and a strong sense of ethics, Ron started a career in finance – first with Cleveland Trust Bank, followed by Merrill Lynch.
In 1975, Ron and Rita both accepted new positions in Minneapolis, MN — Ron with Marquette Capital Management in bank portfolio management and economic forecasting. Following his tenure at Marquette, Ron co-founded Minneapolis-based Piper Capital Management, where he held the positions of senior vice president and chief economist. Partners and close friends Ben Rinkey and Ed Kohler agree: “Ron was well-liked and respected by clients, coworkers, and Wall Street brokerages. His colleagues still say they never learned more or had more fun than while working at Piper Capital and Ron was a big part of making that happen.”
Ronald was a generous man, not only with his time but also teaching economics at Cleveland Community College and mentoring many young co-workers throughout his career. He and Rita shared a zest for life and their good fortune with family, friends and countless charities. When Ron retired in 2000 and the Reusses moved to Naples, FL, he remained as busy in new activities. For starters, Ron ditched his suits and acquired the first of countless Tommy Bahama shirts. His passion for remaining active included dancing, traveling, hosting many grand as well as intimate parties, summering in Cape Cod and, his favorite... captaining their boat, New Adventure, on Florida and Bahamian waters with many Pelican Isle Yacht Club friends.
Ron was an active parishioner of St. John the Evangelist Church in Naples, Fl, and Holy Trinity Church in West Harwich, MA.
Ron is survived by his wife, Rita Page Reuss of Naples, FL, and many relatives and friends whom he considered his close family... and who considered him the same in return.
