Sara (Sally) Jane Flook Morner, 95, of North Falmouth, Mass, passed away on Friday, September 22, 2017. She was the widow of Richard Robinson Morner, who predeceased her in 2002.
Sara was born on October 9, 1921 to Raymond Arthur Flook and Jessie Mae Brenner Flook in Springfield, Ohio.
She attended Wittenberg College in Springfield, where she was a member of Gamma Phi Beta sorority. In 1941, she married Richard and moved to Dartmouth College, where he was a student and teacher. They then moved to Longmeadow, Mass, where they lived for more than 40 years. After raising her children, Sara held positions as the secretary of the Springfield, Mass. Adult Education Council and was a reading lab specialist for Longmeadow High School. She was also a Sunday school teacher, softball coach, Junior League member, Girl Scout leader and in the choir and altar guild at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church.
Sara and Richard moved full time to Cape Cod in the 80’s. She was a member of the North Falmouth Congregational Church, the Falmouth Garden Club, Catboat sailor, bridge player and a member of the Woods Hole Golf Club nine hole women’s group. In retirement, Sara traveled extensively, including fabulous adventures with her grandchildren to many places in Europe.
Sara had an inquisitive mind, always asking questions about things, people and places. She had a great love for adventure and often imparted thoughts of wisdom about her experiences in life including having lived through the depression.
Sara is survived by her two daughters and son in law, Carolyn Morner Hummer of North Falmouth, MA and Patricia and Williston Case of Kent, CT. Her other son in law, Harry Hummer, predeceased her. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Steve Abbott, Jr. of Ormond Beach, FL, Michael and Julie Abbott of Medway, MA, Sara and Bob Mullaney of Boxford, MA, Gary Oakley, Jr. and by her step grandson, Williston and Samantha Case of Sharon, CT and by great grandchildren, Emily, Ryan and Brady Abbott, Blake and Sara Oakley, Asa Abbott, Maddie, Grace and Drew Mullaney and her step great grandchildren, Williston and Eli Case.
There will be a memorial service on November 4, 2017 at 11:00 at the North Falmouth Congregational Church and all are invited to a remembrance and celebration of Sara’s life at the Woods Hole Golf Club at 12:30.
