Shawn R. Thayer, 31, died peacefully on December 31st, 2017. Shawn was the loving son of his mother, Sandy A. Norton, and his father, Richard W. Thayer Jr. He is also survived by his step-father, Ricardo Tavares, and his step-mother, Lauren Thayer.
Shawn grew up in Middleboro and was a graduate of Middleboro High School, Class of 2004. He was a gifted athlete who loved golf, hockey, football, and baseball. He served as a Captain on his high school golf team and later won a longest-drive competition at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. He joined the United States Army in 2008 and served two combat tours of duty in Afghanistan with the 101st Airborne Division, the Army’s elite modular light infantry unit trained for air assault operations. Shawn received several medals, ribbons, decorations, and citations of good faith and conduct during his time in the US Army and successfully completed the Warrior Leadership Course. He was currently studying Operations & Management at Bristol Community College.
Father of Josiah, Sarah Lynn, and Kaitlyn Marie, and the brother of Ryan H. Thayer of Raynham, and Richard W. Thayer III of Bridgewater. Grandson of Lynn R. Thayer, and the late Richard W. Thayer Sr, and Harrison T. Norton Sr. Shawn is also survived by several loving step-grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and Soldiers.
Shawn will be dearly missed by all of his family and friends.
Family and friends are invited to the Prophett-Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 98 Bedford St. Bridgewater, MA, on Friday, January 12th for visitation from 5-7p.m. and a funeral service starting at 7p.m.
