Stephen A. Dempsey, 73, of Jamaica Plain passed away on November 29, 2017. He was a beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend.
Stephen was born in Boston on December 3, 1944, the son of the late Verner (Bud) Dempsey and Marie (Daly) Dempsey of Lexington, MA. He was a graduate of Catholic Memorial High School, Boston College, and Golden Gate University.
Stephen had a distinguished career in the USAF, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1990. He and his family were stationed at US and NATO bases in the United States, Japan, Turkey, and Germany. He was recognized for outstanding achievement and meritorious service.
In 1990 Stephen founded IPT Associates, a consulting firm to the Department of Defense. He developed and grew IPT Associates for twenty three years and sold the company in 2014.
In addition to being devoted to his family, Stephen was an accomplished “blue water sailor.” He was an avid New England sports fan, athlete, and coach for youth sports. He was a committed volunteer in his church, his neighborhood, and the larger community.
He is survived by his children and their spouses, Amy and Eli Burleson of VA, Ted and Julie Dempsey of Westwood, Sarah and Frank Dundulis of Norfolk; his former wife Cheri (Trimble) Dempsey of VA; and his siblings and their spouses, John Dempsey and Mary Scott of Brookline, Tom and Isabel Dempsey of Skopelos, GR, David and Jean Dempsey of Montague, and Maria and Ken Gould of San Antonio, TX. Stephen adored by six grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, December 6 at St. John the Evangelist Church in Pocasset, MA. Visiting hours will be held from 4 – 8 P.M. on Tuesday, December 5 at Chapman, Cole & Gleason West Falmouth 584 West Falmouth Hwy (Rt 28A), West Falmouth, Ma 02574.
