Thomas J. Millett

Thomas J. Millett passed away peacefully on November 28, 2019 at his home in West Yarmouth. Born in Springfield, MA he was the son of the late Thomas and Jeanne (Bissell) Millett. 

Raised in West Springfield, MA, he was a graduate of Cathedral High School (Class of 1973) and went on to graduate with a degree in Marine Engineering from Massachusetts Maritime Academy. After graduating from MMA he settled on Cape Cod. He spent most of his career sailing for Sun Transport (Sunoco) and retired as a Chief Engineer. His career took him all over the world but he was happiest at home on Cape Cod.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Ann, his sons, July Millett and Christopher Millett, and his siblings Anne E Millett of West Springfield and Mary Millett Pollock of Bedford, NH.  He was predeceased by his sister Dr. Jeanne M. Millett of Albany, NY and his in-laws, John and Evora DeMartino. Also surviving him are his beloved nieces and nephews Sean Smith (Billie Jo), Valerie Payes (Jeff), Alex Payes (Olivia), Stephanie Pollock (Spencer), Kimberly Pollock, Lindsay Pollock, his sweet great-nieces Cecilia, Sefina, and Maila, as well as countless cousins, extended family and life-long friends. He was known as “Uncle Tommy” to many.

Tom loved to read and read many a book while sailing. He was happiest when cooking for a large crowd of family and friends. Tom was a communicant of the St Pius X Parish.

Friends and relatives are invited to a funeral Mass for Tom on Saturday, December 14, 2019 at 10 am at St Pius X Parish, Station Avenue, South Yarmouth, MA.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Office of Advancement, Massachusetts Maritime Academy, 101 Academy Drive, Buzzards Bay, MA  02532. Please designate your donation in memory of Thomas J. Millett (Class of ’78) for the Scholarship Fund or you can give online at the Mass Maritime website.
