Warren Christian Nunheimer

Warren Christian Nunheimer, 88, of Mashpee, died peacefully on Monday, May 15.  He was the beloved husband of Loretta (Steele) for 58 years. Born in Queens, NY on August 11,1928, he was the son of Teresa (Petrocelli) and Christian Nunheimer, and brother of Gloria Nunheimer. 

Warren graduated from Newtown High School in 1946 and from Fordham University with a BS in Business Administration in 1949. During college he worked for Gimbels Department Store.   After being drafted and serving in the Korean War with the 45th Thunderbird Infantry Division, he returned to New York City and worked as a merchandise Manager for Wamsutta Mills.  In 1966 he and Loretta moved to Cape Cod with their young family where he was partner with his brother-in-law, Matthew Steele, in Cape Carrier Corp., managing the school buses for the Dennis-Yarmouth School District for 20 years.  

Warren enjoyed a love of creating art in various forms, in particular painting.  He shared his talent with family and friends through gifts for birthdays, weddings, and other special occasions.

He is survived by his wife, Loretta; his son David and his wife, Bobbi; his son Mark and his wife, Bonnie; his daughter Leslie Silliman and her husband, Graham.  He had the good fortune to have been a grandfather for the past 26 years, enjoying his 8 grandchildren: Courtney, Christian, Katie, Kyle, Isaac, Derek, Hailey, and Margo.  

A mass will be held at St. Jude’s Chapel at Christ the King in Mashpee, Saturday, May 20 at 10am. 

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the VNA of Cape Cod - Hospice, 434 Route 134, Suite D3, South Dennis, MA 02660.
