Osterville – Warren E. Hansen passed away on October 24, 2019 at the age of 94. He was born in Malden, MA on March 25, 1925 to Malinda (Bloom) and Frank Hansen. The family moved to Osterville in 1936. Warren is predeceased by his parents and siblings Richard Hanson and Marilyn Orr as well as Barbara, his wife of 69 years who passed in 2018. He is survived by his sons, David (Jen) and Peter (Nancy Kelly); grandchildren, Kristin Rothera (Mike), Katey Thompson (Ben) and Amy Britton (Eric); 7 great grandchildren, Grace and Tenley Rothera, Boden, Emily and Drew Thompson, Molly and Jake Britton. Warren attended Barnstable schools before enlisting in the Navy during World War II. He served 28 months aboard the USS Half Moon in the South Pacific from Australia to the Solomon Islands and Okinawa. Upon his return, he received his war diploma from Barnstable High School.
In 1948 he married Barbara Halliday of Milton. In 1955 Warren founded Hansen’s, a long-time business in Osterville center, selling office supplies and business machines until his retirement. He grew the business from a one-man operation to over 30 employees serving the Cape and Islands. He was very active in town government serving as an elected Town Meeting member, a Town Council member for 5 years and once served as President. He was also elected to 2 Charter Commissions. Warren was an Osterville Village Association member and director for 40 years. He helped organize the Osterville Business and Professional Association and served as it’s first President. He was voted “Osterville’s Man of the Year” in 1983.
Warren joined the Mariners Lodge (Masons) and served as it’s Master in 1958. He served as District Deputy Grand Marshall and Senior Grand Steward of the Grand Lodge of MA. He served as past President of the Cummaquid Golf Club and the Barnstable Little League. Warren was also a blood donor and donated over 26 gallons in his lifetime.
In his retirement he was a volunteer at the Barnstable Police Station, and he enjoyed golfing with his friends. Barbara and Warren loved to travel and had one major world adventure planned each year.
There will be a memorial service at the Osterville United Methodist Church, 57 Pond St., Osterville, MA at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 9, 2019.
