William Cericola

William A Cericola, age 98, a longtime resident of West Yarmouth, died at the Mayflower Nursing Center on August 16th after a period of declining health. He was the devoted husband of the late Grace (Kruth) Cericola for 58 years and was pre-deceased by his brothers Joe Cericola of Natick, Paul Cericola of Spring Hill FL and Don Cericola of New Port Richey FL. Devoted father of Joseph Cericola and his wife Joy (Rappazzo) of West Barnstable, Ray Cericola and his wife Sarah Thornington of West Yarmouth and loving grandfather to Adriana Cericola. He leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews that he enjoyed to be near to share in their life’s experiences.

Born in Boston, Bill was youngest son of Gaetano and Clementina (Finamore) Cericola. He grew up in Everett until his father’s sudden death when he was 11 years old and then moved to Somerville to live with extended family. After high school he would go on to serve in the Army Air Forces during WWII seeing duty in the south Pacific. Returning home from the war Bill worked in several civil service jobs before settling on a career in the US Post Office where he retired after 30 years of service. For a second career he moved on to his true calling as a developer and general contractor when moving to the Cape in the 70’s. 

Whenever family and friends were present Bill would find his happiest moments sharing his love for life with all. He had many interests that ranged from traveling to home projects and was an avid card player on the Lorena Poker Tour. Bill was a lifelong ardent Catholic and gave much as a volunteer to the St Francis Xavier Church in Hyannis.

True to his family and friends, always putting them first, last and forever, Bill will be deeply missed. 

Funeral Mass on Friday, August 21, 2020 at 11 AM at St. Francis Xavier Church in Hyannis.  Burial will be held at Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne at 1:30 PM.
