Willis “Bill” Eugene Bye, died peacefully at home on July 9, 2018 following a long illness. He was the loving husband of Angela (Hunt) Bye for 52 years.
Bill was born on April 27, 1937 in Fargo, North Dakota to Esther & Peter Bye. He moved to Seattle, Washington as a youth, where he stayed for school through his formative years. He rowed crew and played football in high school, and continued rowing during college at the University of Washington.
Bill graduated from the University of Washington Magna Cum Laude with a BS in 1959, where he was also a member of the Psi Upsilon fraternity. He moved to the east coast to attend Harvard Business School, where he earned an MBA in 1964. He also received a DBA from George Washington University in 1977.
Bill worked as President of Operations at 3M and Textron, managing the manufacturing build-out and the global supply chain integration for both international organizations. He was also a military veteran, having served and risen to the level of Colonel in the 1950’s.
Bill was a longtime resident of Lincoln and Hyannis Port, MA and was an avid and active member of the Hyannisport Yacht Club and Hyannisport Golf Club. Bill was engaged in several annual regattas and golf outings. He was fortunate enough to score a “hole in one” in 2012 and to win his club’s senior member/member championship in 2014.
While not born on the east coast, Bill became an avid Boston Sports fan, closely following the Red Sox and the Patriots.
In addition to his loving wife Angie and his brother Gerald Bye, Bill is survived by his two children, Adrienne Bye Westerfield and Peter Johnson Bye II, and his 4 grandchildren, Avery and Lindsay Westerfield, and Zoe and Zach Bye.
Visiting hours will be from 5 to 8 pm on Thursday, July 12th at the John-Lawrence Funeral Home, 3778 Falmouth Rd., Marstons Mills. A Funeral Mass will be on Friday at 10 am at Our Lady of Victory, 230 So. Main St., Centerville. Burial will be at a later date.
